🎨 Okabe & Ito (2008) palette — verified against a real data-viz reference

Accessible Color Palette Generator

A published, colorblind-safe categorical palette for charts and dashboards - see each color as protanopia/deuteranopia/tritanopia viewers would. Displaces paid design tools' "accessible palette" features. Nothing leaves your browser.

How it works

The palette isn't generated algorithmically — it's the fixed, published 8-color Okabe & Ito (2008) qualitative palette, verified against Claus Wilke's "Fundamentals of Data Visualization" rather than assumed from memory. Choosing a count from 1-8 simply slices that fixed list, and each colorblind-simulation swatch is produced by multiplying its sRGB values through the same Machado/Oliveira/Fernandes 2009 matrices already used in the site's Color-Blindness Simulator tool.

FAQ

Why can't I generate more than 8 colors?
The palette is a fixed, published set of 8 colors verified as distinguishable under color-vision deficiency — adding more would require inventing new colors that haven't been vetted, defeating the purpose.
How accurate is the colorblind simulation?
It applies the same Machado/Oliveira/Fernandes 2009 transformation matrices as the site's Color-Blindness Simulator, using a direct sRGB multiply without gamma linearization — a good approximation but not a substitute for testing with actual colorblind users.
