โ— rendered entirely in your browser

ASCII art text generator

Big block-letter banners for terminal headers, READMEs, or just for fun. Works for any characters, not just a fixed alphabet.

How it works

Your text is drawn onto an off-screen canvas using the browser's own font renderer (bold monospace at the chosen point size), then the pixel alpha values are read back and each sampled cell is converted to a "#" or a space. It isn't a fixed lookup table of letter shapes, so it works for any character your browser's font can render, not just A-Z.

FAQ

Why can it render characters other than letters and numbers?
Because it draws real glyphs with the browser's font engine and samples the resulting pixels, rather than looking up letters in a fixed ASCII-art alphabet โ€” any character your browser's monospace font can draw becomes ASCII art.
Why does a larger "Size" setting produce a bigger block of text?
Size sets the font's point size before rendering, and the sampling cell size scales with it too, so the pattern comes out proportionally bigger without becoming any blockier or more pixelated.
