Hash generator

Type or paste text below — SHA-1, SHA-256, SHA-384, and SHA-512 hashes update live, computed by your browser's built-in Web Crypto API. Nothing is sent anywhere.

How it works

Hashes are computed with the Web Crypto API's crypto.subtle.digest() — the same browser-native cryptographic implementation used by real security code, not a JavaScript re-implementation of SHA that could have subtle bugs.

FAQ

Can a hash be reversed back to the original text?
No — SHA hashes are one-way by design. They're used to verify data hasn't changed (checksums) or to compare values without storing the original, not to encrypt it.
Why does even a tiny text change completely change the hash?
That's the avalanche effect, a deliberate property of cryptographic hash functions — it makes it impossible to guess what changed just by comparing two hashes.
