How it works

Uploading an image reads it as a data URL with FileReader and draws it onto a canvas sized to the image's native resolution; text is measured word-by-word with the canvas's own measureText() and wrapped onto multiple lines once it would exceed about 92% of the image width, then drawn twice per line — a thick black stroke followed by a white fill — to produce the classic Impact-font meme outline effect, and downloading just reads the canvas back out as a PNG data URL.

FAQ

Why does the text look different if Impact isn't installed on my computer?

The canvas requests Impact first but falls back to Arial Black and then a generic sans-serif if Impact isn't available on your system, since it's a licensed font not bundled with most browsers or operating systems — the meme still works, just with a slightly different bold font.

Does my uploaded image get sent anywhere?

No — the image is read directly into the browser's memory as a data URL and drawn on a canvas element; it's never uploaded to a server, which is also why the generator still works if you go offline after the page loads.
