How it works

The room and every piece of furniture are stored internally as feet, no matter which unit button is active — switching to meters only divides the displayed numbers by 3.28084 for input and labels. Dragging snaps position to a grid increment (0.5 ft, or its metric equivalent), clamps each item so it can't be dragged off the room's edges, and flags overlap by comparing each pair of pieces' rotated bounding boxes with a small tolerance so flush edges don't falsely trigger a warning. The whole layout is written to localStorage after every change, so reloading the page restores it.

Does switching between feet and meters change my room's actual dimensions?

No — the room and every piece of furniture are stored internally in feet; toggling units only converts the displayed numbers (dividing by 3.28084 for meters), so nothing about your layout's actual scale changes.

Why does a piece turn red even though it looks like it's not quite touching another?

The overlap check uses a small 0.01-foot tolerance so pieces can sit flush edge-to-edge without triggering a false warning — if you still see red, the bounding boxes (which use rotated width and depth, not visual footprint) are actually overlapping.
