Social media character counter

Write once, check it fits everywhere.

How it works

The counter runs on the textarea's input event and checks your text's raw length against seven hardcoded platform limits — X/Twitter (280), Instagram and TikTok captions (2,200), Facebook posts (63,206), LinkedIn posts (3,000), YouTube titles (100), and meta descriptions (160) — turning each bar amber past 85% of the limit and red once you're over it.

FAQ

Does this count emoji and accented characters the same way X or Instagram would?
Not always — this counts raw JavaScript string length (UTF-16 code units), while a platform's own counter may weight certain characters, including many emoji, differently, so your true limit on that platform can be slightly different.
Why is the Facebook limit so much higher than the others?
Facebook's own post limit is 63,206 characters — a cap almost nobody reaches, unlike X's much tighter 280-character limit.
