How it works

Since browsers can't natively decode HEIC/HEIF in an or , HEIC files are first run through heic2any, a JavaScript HEIC decoder, and converted to a JPEG intermediate. Every image is then drawn onto an off-screen canvas at its full resolution and re-exported with canvas.toBlob() in your chosen format and quality, all inside the browser.

FAQ

Why does the quality slider disappear when I choose PNG?
PNG is a lossless format, so canvas.toBlob() ignores a quality value for it entirely β€” the slider only matters for JPG and WebP, which compress by discarding data at your chosen level.
Why does converting a HEIC photo take longer than other formats?
HEIC isn't a format browsers can read directly, so the tool has to decode it with the heic2any library into a JPEG first, before it can even be loaded onto the canvas for the actual conversion to your target format.
