Choosing a license swaps in one of six verbatim license texts (MIT, Apache-2.0, GPL-3.0, BSD-3-Clause, ISC, Unlicense) sourced from their official texts, then does a simple find-and-replace of the year and copyright-holder placeholders — for Apache-2.0 it fills the [yyyy]/[name of copyright owner] boilerplate in the appendix, since Apache's own template puts them there rather than at the top.
FAQ
Why does the GPL-3.0 text look so much longer than the others?
Because it is — the GPL is a copyleft license with detailed terms about source-code distribution and conveying modified versions, not a formatting choice by this tool; the text here is the license verbatim, unedited.
Does picking a license here make it legally binding?
Only once you actually add the generated LICENSE file to your project and it's clear that license governs the code — the generator just fills in placeholders in the official text; it doesn't file or register anything.
