Pokémon Early-Game Team Builder

Generates a random team of 6 from Pokémon realistically available in the wild by around your 3rd–4th gym — and biases the pick toward good type coverage instead of pure randomness. A fun nuzlocke/challenge-run starting point.

⚠ Encounter pools are built from general early-route knowledge for each region, not an exhaustive per-route, per-version audit — a couple of edge cases (version-exclusive encounters) may not be 100% precise. Types shown are current/modern typing (e.g. Fairy type, added in Gen 6, applies retroactively to Pokémon like Clefairy that predate it).

How it works

The generator uses a greedy scoring algorithm, not pure randomness: after shuffling each region's early-encounter pool, it repeatedly picks whichever remaining Pokemon adds the most new types to the team's current type coverage (with base stat total and a small random tiebreaker as secondary factors), so teams tend to cover more of the 18 types than 6 fully random picks would.

FAQ

Are the encounter pools 100% accurate to the games?
No - the disclaimer up top notes they're built from general early-route knowledge per region, not an exhaustive per-version audit, so a few version-exclusive edge cases may not be perfectly represented.
Why does Clefairy show the Fairy type in a Kanto (Gen 1) team?
Types shown use current, modern typing rather than each game's original typing - Fairy type wasn't introduced until Generation 6, but it applies retroactively to Pokemon like Clefairy that predate it.
