systemd Unit File Generator

Fill in the blanks, get a working .service unit file for running a custom binary or script as a daemon. Nothing is ever uploaded.

Generated .service file

Save as /etc/systemd/system/myapp.service, then run systemctl daemon-reload && systemctl enable --now myapp.

How it works

The form maps directly onto the three standard systemd unit sections: [Unit] gets Description and an optional After, [Service] gets ExecStart plus WorkingDirectory, User, Restart and RestartSec (each Environment= line is generated from one non-blank line of the textarea), and [Install] gets WantedBy — with WorkingDirectory, User, and After all omitted entirely from the output if you leave them blank.

FAQ

What's the difference between Restart=on-failure and Restart=always?
on-failure only restarts the service if it exits with a non-zero code or is killed by a signal — a clean exit is left stopped. always restarts it regardless of how or why it exited, including a deliberate manual stop.
Why isn't there a field for Type= or multiple ExecStart commands?
This generator targets the common single-command daemon case; more advanced options like Type=notify, socket activation, or multiple ExecStart lines aren't included here and would need to be added to the generated file by hand.
