—sunset
—daylight
How it works
This uses the standard solar-position formula (day-of-year, the sun's declination, and the local hour angle at which it crosses the horizon) to work out when the sun is at the horizon for a given latitude and date, then converts that moment into UK local time — handling the switch between GMT and BST automatically for whichever date you pick.
FAQ
- How accurate are these times?
- Within a minute or two for most dates and locations — the standard solar-position formula used here doesn't account for local horizon obstructions like hills or buildings, which can shift the visible sunset by a few minutes either way.
- Does this account for British Summer Time?
- Yes — times are converted to whichever UK clock setting (GMT or BST) applies on the date you pick, using your browser's timezone data.
