Word frequency counter

Paste text and see which words show up most - handy for SEO copy, transcripts, or spotting overused words in your writing.

How it works

On every keystroke the text is lowercased and split into words with a regular expression that keeps only letters and apostrophes, optionally filtering out a built-in stopword list, then the remaining words are tallied, sorted by count, and the top N are drawn as bars scaled against the single most frequent word.

FAQ

Why don't numbers show up in the frequency list?
The word matcher only captures runs of letters and apostrophes after lowercasing everything, so digits and other punctuation are stripped out and never counted.
What counts as a stopword here?
A fixed list of about 30 common English function words (such as a, an, and, the) built into the tool โ€” it's not an exhaustive stopword list, so words like you or not are still counted even with the checkbox enabled.
