How it works

Each checked option appends its own lines to the output: normalization adds * text=auto, language presets add per-extension eol=lf rules plus generated-file markers, LFS categories add filter=lfs diff=lfs merge=lfs -text for their extensions, and pasted vendored paths get linguist-vendored — all combined live as you toggle checkboxes.

FAQ

What does filter=lfs diff=lfs merge=lfs -text actually do for selected binary types?
It tells Git to hand those file patterns to Git LFS instead of storing them directly in the repo, and the -text flag stops Git from trying to normalize their line endings, since they're binary — you still need Git LFS installed for this to take effect.
Why mark vendored/generated paths with linguist-vendored instead of just adding them to .gitignore?
They're not being ignored — they're already tracked in the repo — this attribute just tells GitHub's language-detection (Linguist) to exclude them from the repo's language statistics, so a bundled dist/ folder doesn't skew your repo to mostly one language.
